Module 1: The yachting sector and the fundamentals of yacht interior design
Yacht and superyacht market: owners, shipyards, studios and brands · Typologies: motor and sailing, semi-custom and full-custom, the 24 m threshold · Naval terminology and reading the design brief · The interior yacht designer’s role in the project team
Module 2: General arrangement and onboard space layout
Reading the naval architect’s General arrangement · Owner, guest and crew zones: flows, privacy and service routes · Structural constraints: frames, bulkheads, headroom and systems runs · Ergonomics and anthropometry in compact spaces
Module 3: Designing the spaces: cabins, saloons, crew areas and exteriors
Owner’s suite and guest cabins · Main salon, dining, beach club and exterior areas · Galley, crew mess and crew accommodation · Bathrooms, stowage and multifunctional furniture
Module 4: Materials and finishes for the marine environment
Marine timbers, veneers, lacquers and composites · Lightweight stone, metals, glass and technical textiles · Weight budget and material choice for stability and consumption · Durability: salt, humidity, vibration and maintenance
Module 5: Light, comfort and systems integration
Natural and artificial lighting design, scenes and light control · Acoustics, insulation and vibration control · HVAC and integrating systems into the joinery · Automation, audio-video and environmental control
Module 6: Regulations, class and interior safety
Flag state, classification societies (RINA, Lloyd’s) and LY3/REG codes · Structural fire protection, zones and escape routes · Fire certification of materials under the IMO FTP Code · Sea-fastening, edges, non-slip surfaces and onboard safety
Module 7: Technical drawing and 3D modelling for yachts
Plans, sections and elevations on the shipyard model · Furniture shop drawings and joinery drawings for the workshop · 3D modelling in Rhinoceros and construction details · Rendering, mood boards and presentation boards
Module 8: Shipyard, owner, brand and the profession
Project flow: concept, development, verification, production, delivery · Coordination with the technical office, suppliers and joinery workshops · Owner, owner’s representative and captain: brief and change requests · Careers, studio or freelance, quotes and contracts
Module 9: Advanced trends: sustainability, refit, luxury and AI

No. The first module covers boat types, the industry chain and onboard vocabulary. You do need interior design basics: if you lack them, the Interior Design Master is the starting point.
